MISSION
UChicago Medicine Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit located at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey focuses on helping individuals return to their highest level of functional independence after an injury or illness. We provide medical oversight, nursing care, physical, occupational and speech therapy in a coordinated inpatient program with the patient and family as the center of care.
LOCATION
Our inpatient rehabilitation unit is located in Harvey on the Ingalls Memorial Hospital campus. We treat individuals living in our local community as well as individuals from the surrounding suburbs and Chicagoland area.
ACTIVITIES
Patients start their day with occupational therapy which focuses on retraining tasks like dressing, grooming, and eating to increase a patient’s level of independence prior to going home. Patients then continue their day by participating in physical and speech therapies, resulting in a total of 3 hours of therapy a day. Speech therapy works with patients on swallowing, language or cognitive skills like memory. Physical therapy focuses on walking, strength and balance.
COMMUNITY NEED
Many patients don’t know what inpatient rehabilitation is until they or a loved one are in need of our services. When someone has a stroke, brain injury, neurological disorder, amputation, or other life altering injury or illness they often need inpatient rehabilitation to help them regain their independence. Having a leading edge rehabilitation program right in your community ensures you will receive the care you need without having to travel long distances. It also makes it convenient for your loved ones to visit.
