The inaugural Turkey and Meal Giveaway was a resounding success, designed to support underserved zip code areas where residents are facing cancer diagnoses and struggling with food insecurity.
After more than 8 hours of preparation, the event saw the seamless distribution of turkeys, side dishes, community resources, and non-perishable foods. A total of 30 families, representing 82 individuals based on family size, were served, with the majority of recipients hailing from the South Suburban Cook County area.
Most recipients lived in households with two or more people. Many expressed heartfelt gratitude, with one saying, “This is an amazing gesture, and the groceries were such a blessing.” Another noted, “This was a big help to my family,” while a third wrote, “I appreciate everything given to me and my family. I also love the stations at the offices, which have helped me throughout the years.” The success of this initiative highlights the profound impact of targeted efforts in addressing food insecurity, especially among those facing chronic health conditions.
