In partnership with the Dr. Richard K. Desser Fund, the Ingalls Development Foundation hosted After Hours with Dr. Misra, a virtual donor engagement event, on Thursday, December 10. Attendees learned about new advancements in breast imaging as well as the impact of our latest Desser Fund investment, Savi Scout, a breast cancer surgery radar localization system.
Dr. Sasmita Misra, a board certified diagnostic radiologist with fellowship training in breast imaging provided an overview of the different types of breast imaging such as standard mammography, MRI, ultrasound and contrast enhanced digital mammography. The Savi Scout surgical guidance systems allows breast surgeons to more accurately pinpoint the breast tissue, during a lumpectomy or excisional biopsy procedure, plan the incision and direct surgery.
Mrs. Dale Desser Epstein, whose inspired leadership helped establish the Desser Fund in her late husband’s honor, addressed the evening’s participants. Nurse Navigator, Delores Knapp gave a video testimonial of how the Richard K. Desser, MD, Comprehensive Breast Center was instrumental in helping her family when her daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer. The ability and tools to diagnosis tumors early was key to her successful outcome.
The Richard K. Desser, M.D. Comprehensive Breast Center is located in the UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Family Care Center in Tinley Park.
